Police Communications Operator

Job Summary:
Responsible for providing a communications link between the public, Ocean Pines Police, and sworn personnel in the field. Receive and respond to law enforcement calls for service from the public.

Essential Functions:

  • Receive emergency law enforcement calls from the public and victims of crime, using radio console equipment to include CAD and all CAD commands related to the dispatch function.
  • Record important information necessary for patrol response such as address/location, phone number, and other information needed by responding units, i.e. descriptions, information on weapons, account of critical activities
  • Dispatches emergency and non-emergency law enforcement calls in a calm and professional manner while maintaining control of the communication channel.
  • Maintain frequent radio communications with sworn personnel during stressful situations and law enforcement emergency responses
  • Operate MILES/NCIC computer terminals performing requests for information from the Police Officer and relaying pertinent information, such as wanted checks, lookouts, vehicle/operator registration or license information
  • Perform wanted checks and send confirmation messages on wanted subjects.
  • Maintain logs and other information as required by the department in written and electronic form
  • Assist and direct the public seeking assistance from the Police Department in a patient, caring, and efficient manner
  • Other jobs as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate in an articulate fashion by telephone or person to person. Ability to receive information, retain information, and transfer information, often during stressful situations. Ability to speak clearly and articulate information over a communications radio. Ability to utilize good spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Ability to learn communications computer systems to enter and retrieve information from MILES, NCIC, CJIS, and the CAD systems. Ability to develop an excellent working knowledge of Ocean Pines geography. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Able to handle stressful situations.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma. Experience in clerical/secretarial, telephone/customer service, and computer operations required. Must be able to type a minimum of 30 words per minute (corrected for errors). Training or experience in using personal computers required. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.


Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to personal computer, calculator, copier and fax machine. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 18 years of age at time of appointment. Must be certified by CJIS [Criminal Justice Information System] within a limited time after employment. Successful completion of agency background investigation to include a polygraph examination. Must take and pass the Drug and Alcohol test. Must be available for shift work which could include weekends, overnights and holidays.

Part-Time Swim Instructors

Part time swim instructors are needed for individual and group lessons. Mornings, evenings, and/or Saturdays. Water Safety Instructor preferred, but will consider experienced instructors. Candidates who have experience working with children will also be considered. A background check & drug screen will be performed.

Beach Parking Attendant

Work independently and under supervision to perform duties at the Beach Club parking lot.

Weekly work schedule is normally up to 20 hours, but may be extended in event of emergency, disaster, workload or work in progress. Work will be required on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Work is sometimes required under emergency, adverse, unpleasant, or unusual conditions, such as, but not limited to, heat, cold, wetness, noise and darkness in all weather conditions.

Requirements:
 
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, with some experience in customer service.
  • Knowledge in parking security.
  • Ability to read, clearly speak and legibly write the English language and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills on the job.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment to define and analyze problems, collect data, establish facts and reach valid conclusions.
  • Must perform physically related duties such as lifting objects up to including 20 pounds in weight, short distance walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending and climbing.
  • Must pass a required Criminal Background Check.

Lifeguards - Seasonal and Year-Round

Qualifications
Must be skilled in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation, and giving first aid. Must have the ability to recognize emergencies and take appropriate action to control them. Good physical strength and sufficient strength and skill technique to control struggling adult swimmers. Must have successfully completed American Red Cross Life Guarding Course or nationally recognized agency and possess all current certification cards.

Job Overview
The lifeguard will perform specialized work in the environment of regulations and protection of lives at the Ocean Pines community swimming pools. This position is responsible for the enforcement of all pool rules and maintaining reasonable state of discipline and behavior to ensure a safe, secure environment. Lifeguards will be rescuing swimmers who might be in distress. Lifeguards are tasked with general cleaning of the facilities. This position works 30 hours a week with 40 hours weekly available in the summer. This position starts at $15 per hour. Currently licensed Pool Operators start at $16 per hour.

General Laborer - Public Works

The Ocean Pines Public Works Department is accepting applications for the position of General Laborer. This position is seasonal. A pre-employment background/drug screening will be performed and must be passed.

The pay range is $15.50/per hour.

Responsibilities include working in a variety of capacities, such as, but not limited to, selected equipment operation and upkeep; landscape, grounds, roads, bulkhead and drainage construction and maintenance; power and hand tool operation; and tree planting, pruning and removal under the general direction of an assigned supervisor to perform various duties involving mowing, construction, general maintenance, landscape maintenance, and related activities in accordance with general instructions and applicable rules, regulations, policies, practices and procedures.

Qualifications include graduation from high school or GED equivalent with some experience in the Public Works field preferred; ability to effectively read, speak, and write the English language, and otherwise demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills on the job; maintain a valid and current driver’s license (class C minimum) and demonstrate safe, dependable and efficient driving practices and operation of equipment on the job; must perform fine hand control procedures and physically related duties such as lifting objects up to and including 60 pounds of weight, short/long distance walking, climbing, standing, stooping, and sitting; effective audio-visual discrimination and perception to make quick and accurate observations; and hearing sufficient to detect abnormal equipment operation and alarms.

General Laborer - Recreation and Parks

The Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks Department has a full-time General Laborer position.  This is a duel reporting position, reporting into Recreation and Parks and Public Works Departments.  We are accepting applications immediately for this full-time position.  A pre-employment background/drug screening will be performed and must be passed.
