Highlights from March 27 public hearing

(March 27, 2021) Video for the March 27 public hearing is now available online.              

During the meeting, homeowners were given time to comment on a referendum proposal that would limit capital expenditure spending to $1 million without a referendum. The current spending threshold without a referendum is 20% of the income derived from annual charges, or about $1.8 million based on collections during fiscal year 2020-2021. 

Association President Larry Perrone said the referendum is the result of a settlement between Ocean Pines and homeowner Slobodan Trendic.  

“Today is the first step in the [referendum] process,” Perrone said. “A mailing has to go out … that will include a brief statement from Mr. Trendic as well as from the OPA Board, and we intend to have that mailing go out to the community no later than April 8.” 

Perrone said referendum ballots would have a return date of May 13, and the Ocean Pines Elections Committee would count the ballots on Friday, May 14.
