'Winter report' - A msg from the Dir of Amenities and Operational Logistics
Monday, January 4, 2021
The Aquatics and Racquet Sports teams, despite the pandemic, have kept busy with our fall and winter classes and lessons. We thank everyone for their continued efforts on wearing masks and following CDC guidelines as we navigate through this tough time.
The winter is a great time to try one of our indoor water exercise classes or come lap swim. Please call us at 410-641-5255 with any questions, or to check out the many offerings we have going on.
Our Tennis Pro, Terry Underkoffler, is also available this winter for lessons and can be reached at 215-808-6457.
The Bainbridge Drainage project should be starting in February/March. Here is a brief description from a past Board presentation on the upcoming project:
Improvements include:
Replacement of a storm drain inflow pipe
Replacement of the pond’s outflow pipes, including the installation of a new pond outfall control structure
Construction of a new forebay
Regrading of the pond perimeter to install aquatic benches
Improvements to the existing gravel park road, which serves as the dam embankment for the facility
Construction of a new weir, which controls water levels and can slow flooding during larger storms
Construction of a new drainage swale downslope of the park road and along the rear of private properties
Water quality improvements to the outfall swale at Beaconhill Road will include excavating clay soils
The Beaconhill Road Culvert replacement entails the replacement of an existing 15-inch CMP culvert under Beaconhill Road with a roughly 36 linear foot concrete box culvert and restoration of areas affected by construction, including reconstruction of all removed sections of asphalt paving.
The Sandyhook Road Culvert replacement entails the replacement of twin 15-inch CMP culverts under Sandyhook Road with twin 18-inch culverts, and restoration of all areas affected by construction, including reconstruction of all removed sections of asphalt paving.
The Pinehurst Road Culvert replacement entails the replacement of the existing culvert under Pinehurst Road with a concrete box culvert and HDPE culvert, and restoration of all areas affected by construction, including reconstruction of all removed sections of asphalt paving.
Project pollutant reduction values:
Total Nitrogen: 1,535lbs/Year
Total Phosphorus: 174lbs/year
Total Suspended Solids: 90 Tons/Year
Drainage continues to be a priority for the team, and we are continuing our efforts to get future water quality and stormwater grants, along with Maryland Coastal Bays and Worcester County, who are both huge contributors of this process.
As always, the team appreciates the support of the community! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to
cphillips@oceanpines.org
and we will work our best to address them.
