Chamber Music by the Sea ZOOMs into the future
Tuesday, July 21, 2020
The following is a release from Chamber Music by the Sea:
(July 22, 2020) Chamber Music by the Sea is reinventing the summer music festival by ZOOMing into the future! While festivals around the world are canceling due to challenges posed by the COVID pandemic, Chamber Music by the Sea is committed to — and inspired by — bringing more people than ever together through music. Although the format may look slightly different this year, the festival’s top-notch musicians, innovative programming, and opportunity to “mingle” (and raise a glass!) together virtually will be available to audiences from the coziness of their homes.
Chamber Music by the Sea’s Artistic Director, violinist Elena Urioste, has once again assembled a roster of internationally acclaimed artists who will join forces from around the world (offering glimpses into their individual musical worlds during this period of lockdown) to present diverse programs, featuring works by Dvorak, Grieg, Xavier Foley, and Berlin’s own Lila Wildy Quillin, among others. Urioste will be joined by several returning festival favorites: violist Milena Pajaro-Van de Stadt, cellist Brook Speltz, and pianist Tom Poster; new to the festival this year are violinist Grace Park and double bassist Xavier Foley; we will also be treated to guest appearances by international superstars including pianist Jonathan Biss, violist Rosalind Ventris, and cellist Laura van der Heijden. This extraordinary group of artists includes recipients of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, Naumburg International Competition first prize, Sphinx Medal of Excellence, and BBC Young Musician award.
This year’s virtual festival will run from August 18-22 and include three ticketed evening concerts plus a free Saturday morning family mini-concert suitable for children of all ages, all streamed online. Under the sponsorship of the Worcester County Education Foundation, Chamber Music by the Sea proudly supports year-round arts initiatives in Worcester County public schools through its festival ticket sales.
