Residential recycling and trash cart service guide FAQ
(Answers were provided by Republic Services, updated Oct. 25, 2024)
Please contact Republic Services at 443-210-3505. If you receive the voicemail, please leave a message as to your name, address, and request and Republic will address as soon as possible.
Q. Are trash carts mandatory for trash pickup? Can I use my own can, or simply place bagged trash at the curb to be collected?
A. All trash must be placed in the Republic Services wheeled carts. Trash in personal cans or bags will not be collected.
Q. I received a new trash cart. What do I do with the old one?
A. Personal containers can be used for other purposes. Please dispose of all your municipal solid waste into the Republic Services wheeled carts.
Q. Are residents being charged extra for new trash carts? If so, how much?
A. All residents of Ocean Pines are being provided Republic Services wheeled carts free of charge.
Q. If I need a new trash cart, what can I do?
A. Please contact Republic Services at 443-210-3505 to schedule cart repairs.
Q. What happens if my trash is not collected on a scheduled day?
A. The Ocean Pines administration office will be notified of any delay. All reported misses will be recovered within 24 hours.
Q. Given that trash is picked up twice each week, my trash cart is too large, and I don’t have room for it.
A. The wheeled carts are extremely easy to move around and store. Should you have any questions, please call 443-210-3505.
Q. How does bulk get collected?
A. North gate side: Bulk pickup is the first Wednesday of every month. South gate side: Bulk pickup is the second Wednesday of every month. Please call 443-210-3505 to schedule a bulk pickup. Call 48 hours ahead to schedule.
Q. How does my trash collection work?
A. Roll your cart to the curb the night before your collection day. The cart is emptied mechanically from inside a Republic Services vehicle cab. The driver uses a joystick, much like those used in video games, to operate the arm that picks up the cart and empties the trash into the truck. The cart is set back in place, and the Republic Services truck moves on to the next stop.
Q. When should I set out my cart?
A. Be sure your cart is at the curb the night before your collection day to ensure collection.
Q. Where do I place my cart for service?
A. Proper placement is extremely important. The night before your collection day, please place your cart within 2 feet from the edge of the street. Make sure the handles are facing toward your house, so that when the cart is lifted, the lid opens toward the street. Please check so that the cart is not blocked by parked cars, boats, etc.
Q. What can I put in my trash cart?
A. The wheeled cart is for all your household trash. Please bag loose items to prevent littering. Since the cart is mechanically emptied, the driver never leaves the truck. The cart cannot be emptied if trash is on top of or next to the cart – all trash must fit inside the cart with the lid closed. You should not put concrete, large amounts of dirt or heavy trash in your cart. Please do not put hot ashes, paint or any hazardous liquids or materials in your cart.
