Bright outlook for fall
Thursday, September 30, 2021
A message from Association President Larry Perrone
The following appeared in the fall 2021 issue of the Ocean Pines Quarterly Report:
The summer is over and what a summer it was. The crowds have returned and Ocean Pines was rockin’ and rollin’ all summer long. Congratulations to all our staff for all their hard work this summer.
Like every other business in the area, Ocean Pines was short on summer help, but our management team did a great job dealing with the challenge. As of the end of the month July, our financial picture was very bright with a positive variance to budget of almost $1 million.
The numbers for August are preliminary, but it looks like another stellar month brings our positive variance to budget over $1.1 million.
Particular credit goes to our Aquatics Director Kathleen Cook and Recreation and Parks Director Debbie Donahue. Both recently took on more responsibility, and the organic growth in income and cost cutting have made a huge impact on the Aquatics and Racquet Sports results. Golf operations are also doing great. The golf maintenance team did a sensational job all summer providing a golf course that is in excellent shape and getting rave reviews from our members and guests. The investments made in drainage and equipment are having an impact on the bottom line. Golf operations are about $200,000 positive to budget.
The Food and Beverage operations managed by the Matt Ortt Companies are producing record numbers. Our banquet business is booming and the crowds on the weekends have been large. MOC’s ability to hire outstanding musical entertainment is a great asset and is generating positive variances at our clubs.
There is still more work to be done, but our General Manager and his team are focused on continued improvements of our beautiful community. Over the last 18 months, Ocean Pines has witnessed a large turnover of ownership. I want to welcome everyone to Ocean Pines and hope you come to love this community as much as we do. Now that the crowds are gone, enjoy all the things our area provides for the residents.
