Chamber Music by the Sea announces 2021 lineup
Wednesday, July 7, 2021
The following is a communication from the annual Chamber Music by the Sea festival:
We look forward to having you join us as Chamber Music by the Sea celebrates its sixth season as the Eastern Shore's premier summer festival.
We are so excited to introduce you to the magic of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective, co-founded by violinist and festival artistic director Elena Urioste and pianist Tom Poster. This acclaimed group of dazzling young musicians, recently selected as an Associate Ensemble of London’s legendary Wigmore Hall, makes its U.S. debut with these festival appearances, and you won't want to miss a single moment!
Although we had hoped to gather in person this year, Covid-related travel restrictions for our international roster of artists made that impossible. Once again, we'll gather in the virtual lounge to mingle with the musicians from across the U.S., U.K., and EU, hear their often hilarious stories of backstage life, and listen to their dazzling music-making, all from the comforts of home.
Festival highlights include:
Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.: A folk-inspired program including the African-American composer Florence Price’s stunning Piano Quintet, duos by Bela Bartok repurposed for ALL of the string instruments, and the beloved spiritual “Deep River” in a new arrangement by Tom Poster.
Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.: A program featuring Felix Mendelssohn’s exuberant Piano Sextet, a gorgeous setting of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “How Cold the Wind Doth Blow”, a Great American Songbook favorite arranged by Tom Poster, and more.
Aug. 7 at 10:30 a.m.: A free concert streamed live on Facebook to get everyone in the family tapping their toes and dancing to the music.
Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.: A special program complete with gorgeous scenery delivered to you from Suffolk, England’s picturesque Snape Maltings, featuring the rapturous piano quintet by Amy Beach, songs by Venezuelan-born French composer Reynaldo Hahn, and a little surprise dedicated to Kaleidoscope’s tiniest member! As a bonus, there is a special hybrid in-person/streamed event at the Art League of Ocean City on Aug. 2.

Chamber Music by the Sea has a firm commitment to music education, involving young local musicians in outreach activities and in the summer concerts themselves, and connects with the community throughout the academic year with local in-school visits and Virtual Visiting Artist appearances.
The Worcester County Education Foundation sponsors Chamber Music by the Sea and ticket sales benefit scholarships given through the nonprofit. Additional support is provided by the Worcester County Arts Council and the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation.
