Controlled burn scheduled this Sunday

(Oct. 3, 2020) A controlled burn scheduled on Sunday, Oct. 4 near the Ocean Pines South Gate is expected to cause noticeable smoke in the area and restrict access to the recycling drop-off.  

Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Grunewald said the recent Tropical Storm Isaias left many downed trees in the community. Ocean Pines Public Works collected the trees and stored them at the Public Works yard, near the south gate.  

“We’re going to help Public Works out by burning those,” Grunewald said. “Because of that, there will be some smoke in the area of the south gate from about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.” 

Grunewald added that there will not be public access to the recycling area near Public Works during that time, because of the Fire Department apparatus needed to ensure safety.
