Ocean Pines area could see tropical storm conditions by Monday
Thursday, July 30, 2020
(July 31, 2020) As Hurricane Isaias develops, this area could see increased risk of swells and rip currents in local waterways over the weekend and tropical storm force winds by Monday morning, according to the Worcester County Department of Emergency Services.
The National Weather Service (NWS) on Friday said tracking the intensity and impacts of the storm "remain highly uncertain as the system is still organizing."
NWS said the chance for sustained winds of more than 50 knots is increasing, with the biggest threat along the Outer Banks in North Carolina and the Virginia Coast. Current models show the impact locally between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., on Monday.
The organization also warned of increased risk for dangerous rip currents at local beaches, starting this weekend and extending into next week. Those heading to the beach should be prepared for the possibility of dangerous surf conditions, NWS said.

NWS advice on hurricane preparedness includes securing loose items outside the home, putting together an emergency kit, and planning an evacuation route. For more information on hurricane and tropical storm preparedness, visit
