WEATHER UPDATE

 

June 13, 2013 

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WAKEFIELD HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR EXTREME EAST CENTRAL DORCHESTER COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MARYLAND, EASTERN SOMERSET COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MARYLAND, WICOMICO COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MARYLAND, WORCESTER COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST MARYLAND UNTIL 515 PM EDT

 

AT 424 PM EDT, NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL, AND DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM HEBRON TO UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE TO 5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF WESTOVER,AND MOVING EAST AT 45 MPH.

 

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE NEAR, DELMAR AROUND 435 PM EDT. POCOMOKE CITY AND PARSONSBURG AROUND 440 PM EDT. SNOW HILL AROUND 450 PM EDT.

NEWARK AROUND 455 PM EDT.  BERLIN AROUND 500 PM EDT. OCEAN PINES AND CAPE ISLE OF WIGHT AROUND 505 PM EDT. OCEAN CITY AROUND 510 PM EDT.

 

OTHER LOCATIONS IMPACTED BY THESE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS INCLUDE REHOBETH,LONGRIDGE,COKESBURY,SALISBURY-WICOMICO,CHESAPEAKE

HEIGHTS,WHITESBURG,MELSON,BEAVER DAM,WHITON AND GOODWILL.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS,THESE STORMS HAVE EXHIBITED SOME WEAK ROTATION. TORNADOES CAN DEVELOP QUICKLY FROM SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. ALTHOUGH ONE IS NOT IMMEDIATELY LIKELY, IF A TORNADO IS SPOTTED, ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM.
