DOGGIE SWIM RAISES MONEY FOR HUMANE SOCIETY

View Short Dog Swim Video by Charlene Sharpe

  Photos by Don LaFond

Over 100 dogs and their human companions splashed and played while raising money for the Worcester County Humane Society at the Ocean Pines Doggie Swim, held Saturday, Sept. 6 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Mumford’s Landing Pool in Ocean Pines.

The swim, which has been hosted by the Ocean Pines Aquatics Department for the past four years, gives dogs the chance to play in the Mumford’s Landing Pool before it closes for the season.  Proceeds benefit the Worcester County Humane Society.

This year’s event, which was open to the public, had its largest turnout to date, raising $900 for the shelter.  The cost to participate was $6 per dog.

Ocean Pines Aquatics Facility Coordinator Lynn Gabeler, who has worked at the event since its beginning, said, “We had an extraordinary response from the community.  It was the best end-of-summer party ever.  We had 98 people sign in – some brought two or three dogs – and raised $900 for the humane society.  Compare that to 57 folks and $245 last year.”
