The most anticipated upcoming event at the Ocean Pines Marketplace is fast-approaching. The Latin Festival, set for Sept. 1 from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. at White Horse Park, will include spicy music from the band Hot Salsa, appearing on the market stage, and a live radio broadcast from the market with Sofia of Maxima 95.3FM. Our resident chef Maggie is in the Marketplace Open-Air Kitchen and the green market is brimming with the bounty of an August harvest. This is where your Saturday begins, at the Ocean Pines Farmers & Artisans Market.
Our farmers and produce merchants are bringing big buckets of fresh cut flowers, piles of sweet corn, large and small melons and boxes of the season’s ultimate star, the bright red tomato.
If you’ve not noticed, signs of autumn are beginning to claim their place on the produce stands. Winter squash and other popular fall crops are pushing and shoving their way amongst the last of the summer crops. The bountiful selection of local summer and fall produce together makes this one of the most rewarding times to shop the market. While savoring the last of summer, we’re awaken to the renewed taste and smells of the fall green market.
This week, take a few extra moments to look just a little closer at the market stands. Discover what’s new again and perhaps take home an old veggie friend again.

It’s all about the garlic with Chef Maggie in the Marketplace Open-Air Kitchen this Saturday. After a visit to Linda’s Backyard market stand, Maggie was inspired by all the varieties of garlic grown in the homestead’s gardens. From preparing the soil in the fall, planting the garlic, to the gathering of scapes in the spring and the harvest of the garlic in early summer, Linda does it all this on her own. With that in mind, Maggie wants to prepare the local garlic in a dish that showcases its special story. Take a seat with Maggie, and enjoy this Garlic edition of the Open-Air Kitchen, Saturday at 10 a.m.
