Maryland Renaissance Festival
Sep 29 @ 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Maryland Renaissance Festival

The Maryland Renaissance Festival is a Renaissance fair located in Crownsville, Maryland. Set in a fictional 16th-century English village named Revel Grove, the festival is spread over 25 acres. More than 1,300 participants populate the village, 400 work directly for the company, 700 for the other vendors and 200 as performers on stages or as characters throughout the village. The Maryland Renaissance Festival utilizes eight major theaters, four smaller stages in taverns, a children’s area and a jousting tiltyard with seating for 3,000.

This year’s storyline, set in 1529, focuses on King Henry VIII and his newest mistress, Anne Boleyn — and contains some historical tweaks. The king, his sister Margaret, and Anne are visiting the village of Revel Grove. Henry, who chose to take Anne over his wife, is seeking an annulment from the queen with hopes of marrying his younger mistress.

The festival will offer regular performances of William Shakespeare’s “Henry VIII,” which depicts the life of the infamous king. While festival actors have performed certain scenes through the years, this is the first time attendees can see a majority of the play, Spedden said.
