QUESTION: Will WM provide me with a trashcan?

ANSWER    : Household garbage – NO. Recycling – YES. Each resident will put their household garbage at the curb in personal trashcans or trash bags. WM will provide a 96 gallon green container with a yellow lid identified for single stream recycling.

QUESTION: Can I purchase or rent a garbage container from WM?

ANSWER    : Yes. To obtain a WM garbage container call Customer Service at (800) 345-7932 and request a 96 gallon container by either: Option 1: Rent for an additional $.96/month on your quarterly invoice. Option 2: Purchase the container for $80.00 which included delivery.

QUESTION: What material is acceptable and how much
GARBAGE I can put out each collection day?

ANSWER    :

o   Acceptable: There is no limit to the amount of “household” garbage a customer may put out for collection.

o   Acceptable: WM will collect up to a maximum of four bags of leaves and/or yard cuttings per collection, as well as, brush, tree limbs and shrub trimmings provided that they are cut into 4-foot lengths and tied into bundles weighing not more than 50 pounds.

o   Acceptable: WM will also collect Christmas trees placed in one piece at the normal collection place for a two-week period following the Holiday.

o   Unacceptable: Household garbage shall not include furniture, mechanical equipment or machinery, including automotive machinery, sand, solid or other mineral matter and any other items or matters not resulting from ordinary household operations.

QUESTION: What is single stream recycling?

ANSWER    : Single Stream Recycling means residents put all their recyclables into a single container. WM will provide a welcome kit that gives details on preparation and acceptable recyclable materials such as paper, metal cans, and plastic and glass bottles and jars.

QUESTION: What material is acceptable for RECYCLING?

ANSWER    : The following  is a list of acceptable material for RECYCLING collection:

o   Paper  and Junk Mail – newspapers, phonebooks, office paper, flyers, catalogues, magazines, wrapping paper, mixed paper, bagged shredded paper

o   Cardboard and Paperboard – corrugated shipping, appliance & storage boxes (flattened), milk and juice cartons, cereal boxes, tissue boxes

o   Plastics – all bottles, food containers, cups, crates, large toys, flowerpots

o   Metals – steel cans, bi-metal cans, tin cans, aluminum cans, aluminum pie plates, aluminum food trays, empty aerosol cans

o   Glass – glass bottles, glass food containers

QUESTION: What is WM’s holiday schedule, and if my collection day lands on a holiday, when will my garbage be collected?

ANSWER    : The chart below lists WM’s 6 recognized holidays:

o   If a collection day falls on a holiday, then everyone’s pickup will be delayed 1 day. As an example, if Monday is a holiday, then your collection day is Tuesday, Wednesday for Tuesday, Friday for Thursday and Saturday for Friday (so all pickups are backed up 1 day). 

o   WM closes on our 6 recognized holidays because the majority of our landfills are closed also. Therefore we push our residential routes back one day.

Here are the 6 holidays for 2013:New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.
For Ocean Pines customers, if the holiday is on a Monday, WM will run Monday’s route on Tuesday and Tuesday’s route on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be normal schedule. If the holiday is on a Tuesday, WM will run Tuesday’s route on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday will be normal schedule. If the holiday is on a Thursday, WM will run Thursday’s route on Friday and Friday’s route on Saturday. If the holiday is on a Friday, we will run Friday’s route on Saturday.

QUESTION: What is the WM recycling rewards program?

ANSWER    : WM has a partnership with Recyclebank to provide a recycling rewards program. This program is included with your recycling service at no additional cost to you. WM will provide detailed information regarding how to create, manage and redeem points on your new Recyclebank account. 

Recyclebank members earn an average of $167 per year in rewards value…For doing the right thing!

The program is based on a “Community Weight Based Model”- Recyclables are collected by route. Tonnage is calculated and divided by all households on the route.  Program points are awarded to households who are members of program.

ANSWER    : Follow these instructions:

1. Go to www.wmcurbside.com/oceanpines  and enter the PROMOTIONAL CODE: oceanpines
   
2. Select the box (there’s only 1 choice) that says, “Customer supplied bag/container” for $15.40 per month. NOTE: Leave the quantity (qty) at 1. Click “Next”
   
3. Recycling Service is pre-selected. Click “Next”
   
4. Yard & Food Waste Service is pre-selected. Click “Next”
   
5. Select payment frequency: Quarterly $46.20 or Annually $184.80. NOTE: there are no additional options. Click “Next”
