Ocean Pines Welcomes the Holiday Season with Tree Lighting Celebration

Ocean Pines is hosting its 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Celebration on Friday, November 30, 2012. “An Old Fashioned Christmas” will be held in White Horse Park at 6:30pm. Visitors are invited to come and welcome in the holiday season with us as we light up the park in celebration!

This holiday tradition is sponsored by local businesses, organizations and members of the community who purchase a tree and hand decorate it for spectators’ enjoyment. Each group that purchases a tree for $40 will have a sign placed at their tree as recognition for their participation. The sponsors will select their own site and will be provided with a live tree approximately 8-15 feet to decorate as they wish. Each tree is specially garlanded with its own unique theme that comes together to create one holiday masterpiece for visitors to enjoy. New this year is the “Children’s Tree Garden”. These tree will be 4 feet tall and cost $30 to sponsor. All trees will be in place by Nov. 21st and must be decorated no later than Nov. 28th.

The celebration is full of holiday fun for the whole family. The twinkling lights, choirs, and bell-ringers create a great place for friends and family to come together. Warm up with a cup of hot cider while listening to Christmas carols performed by local choral groups, followed by a jolly visit from Santa Claus. The winners of the Ocean Pines Gingerbread Hose Contest will also be announced during the celebration.

Spectators are invited to come enjoy the park all throughout the holiday season as displays will remain lit until the New Year. For more information on this event or to purchase a tree call the Recreation and Parks Department at 410-641-7052 or visit www.oceanpines.org
