Due to its growing popularity, the Ocean Pines Farmers Market will kick off its spring and summer season with extended hours beginning May 3. It will be open from 8 am to 1 pm year-round, a change from its previous hours of operation of 8 am to 12 noon. The market will continue to be held on Saturdays at White Horse Park, located at 239 Ocean Parkway in Ocean Pines.
The Ocean Pines Farmers Market will also feature a cooking demonstration on May 3 as a part of its “Chef@Market” series of culinary events. It will pair grilling guru Chef Jan Sklar with market vendor Naturally Sunkissed Farm of Bishopville, which raises poultry that is all-natural, antibiotic-free, cage-free and fed a natural vegetable diet. Sklar’s menu will include a grilled chicken dish, crabby potatoes and a grilled pineapple dessert. The demonstration is free, and copies of the recipes will be available.
Other upcoming Farmers Market events include a free stained glass demonstration, part of the “Meet Me at the Market” series featuring craftsmen, local celebrities, farmers and more. On May 10 at 10 am, stained glass artist Peter Uprichard, who operates his studio in Salisbury, will present glass-cutting techniques and the pattern process. Festivals highlighting seasonal fruits and vegetables will also occur throughout the summer, beginning with a Berry Festival on June 21.
The Ocean Pines Farmers Market features fresh produce, meats, eggs, fish, baked goods, kettle corn, homemade dog treats, floral arrangements, soaps and more. It supports family-based farming, farmers and food producers of the Eastern Shore.
