The Ocean Pines Boat Club is bringing the boat parade back after the event, a long-standing tradition in Ocean Pines, was re-introduced last year. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 at noon at the Swim and Racquet Club.
The club’s boat parade committee is currently seeking commercial and non-commercial entries. Anyone from the Ocean Pines area is welcome to participate, but boats should be no more than 26 feet in length. The fee is $10 for individual entries and $25 for commercial entries.
Cash awards will be given to “best of” winners in several categories, including parade, theme, costumes and design. An award will also be given to the best active or mechanical boat.
This year’s theme is “yore,” which encompasses times gone by up through the present day. Entrants are encouraged to reflect the theme on their boats.
Boats should be ready for the parade’s start by 11:30 am. An awards ceremony will be held at the Whitehorse Park Pavilion at 4 pm. Parade participants are asked to remain in costume until after the ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be held on Sunday, July 26.
