Free Platform Tennis Lessons, Food on April 27

Grab your sneakers and head to the Manklin Meadows Racquet Sports Complex in Ocean Pines for a series of free platform tennis lessons for youth and adults on Saturday, April 27 from 2 – 4 p.m.

Activities will include an introductory lesson for all ages at the event, free food and platform tennis demonstrations.

Platform tennis is an American racquet sport enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages. It is a racquet sport that players can enjoy outdoors in cold weather. The game, which combines elements of tennis and racquetball, is played on a court about one-third the size of a tennis court surrounded by 12-foot fencing that allows play off the screens.

“Here in Ocean Pines, we play platform tennis outside all year long,” said Jim Freeman. “The courts are 1/3 the size of a regular tennis court; each court is surrounded by a 12’ chain link fence which can be used to hit the ball off the screens to keep it in play. We have over 100 players, 6 lighted courts, lots of drop-ins, and fun social activities. After your free lesson and play, you are invited to a free barbeque and you will qualify for a free 30-day trial membership.”

No registration is required. Participants may sign up on the day of arrival.

In the case of inclement weather, the organizer has reserved Sunday, April 28 from 2-4 p.m. as the rain date.
