How does the Leaf Collection program work and when is it offered?
Leaf collection is for DITCH LEAVES ONLY – no yard leaves are to be raked to the side of the road. If residents rake out the ditches of leaves and pull them onto the shoulder of the road, Public Works will come by with a vacuum machine and collect the leaves OR residents can bag their leaves and Republic Services, which offers trash and recycling collection in Ocean Pines, will pick up 4 bags per regularly scheduled trash removal. The leaf collection program normally begins in November and ends in January.
Why is there water in my drainage ditch?
The drainage ditches are used as storm water retention ditches. Often when there is a heavy rain, the water needs somewhere to “sit” until it can drain off or be absorbed into the ground. However, there are times when a blockage can occur. If that is the case, please contact the Public Works Department.
How does the dredging program work?
The current program is a spot dredging program only. There is an application to fill out and when that is received you are placed on a waiting list. It usually takes 1-2 years to actually be dredged due to the permitting process through the county, state, and federal governments.
Whom can I contact to mark trees for removal?
You can contact the Public Works Department at 410-641-7425. To save time, print the “Request for Tree Removal” form prior to coming to the Public Works Department, located behind the South Gate Fire Station.
