Community-Wide Beautification Effort in Ocean Pines

Ocean Pines residents and local business owners will soon get a chance to show off their gardening skills in a community-wide beautification effort on Wednesday, May 1.

“Continuing its ‘Beautification of the Pines,’ the Ocean Pines Garden Club announces the Second Annual May Day Celebration,” said Anita Roberts, of the Ocean Pines Garden Club. “The club’s mission is to stimulate interest in gardening while encouraging friendship within our community.”

Participants must arrange fresh-cut flowers into a beautiful basket that is hung out in front of their home or business and seen from the street. To be considered in the judging, all baskets must be hung by 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, and contestants must place a card with their name, address and a brief description of the arrangement in a Ziploc bag in the basket.

Members of the Ocean Pines Garden Club will be judging baskets between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon on May 1. Ribbons will be placed on the winners’ baskets.

Three families received bragging rights last year for out-decorating neighbors in the first annual Ocean Pines May Day Basket Event. The winning floral arrangement was designed by Robin Wolinski and her daughter, Krysten, both of 24 Brookton Lane. The second place award went to Susan Kaiser, of 28 Moonshell Drive. Barbara Ferger, of 5 Oxford Court, took home third place.
