Crafter of the Month!
The Ocean Pines Pine’eer Craft Club is pleased to announce the Crafter of the Month for August is Kim Perrone.
Kim has received a Bachelors of Art: Art Education from Indiana University of PA. and a Masters of Science: Instructional Technology from Western CT State University and received a teacher certification from the Dept. of Ed, State of CT, as Visual Arts Teacher-in Residence B.E.S.T. Program. Taught elementary art in Danbury, Ct. and Westerville, Oh. before retiring in 2017 as Art Teacher.
Kim says she fell in love with clay in college, and has been perfecting her craft ever since and says she still has so much more to learn. I am not a production potter and enjoy enhancing my wheel thrown forms with springs adding 3D decorative elements to the clay such as shell designs, sea creatures and organic form and altering shapes.
Currently, she is working on “shell bowls” that have hand cut scalloped edges with shells. Her work is meant to be used and is food safe. Sometimes Kim uses 4-5 different glazes on one piece.
You can see this artisan and our other talented artisans in our Pine’eer Artisan and Gift Shop, White Horse Park, Ocean Pines, MD., every Wednesday 3pm-7pm and every Saturday 9am-3pm and Sunday 10am-3pm.
Pine’eer Craft Club Presents Donations: The Pine’eer Craft Club of Ocean Pines was again pleased to present donations to various community organizations. Their 2017 donations totaled $5,300. Over the 40+ years the club has been in existence they have donated approximately $136,427.89 back to their community of Ocean Pines.
The presentations were made prior to the club’s annual Installation/Holiday Luncheon in December. The event was held at the Captain’s Table Restaurant in Ocean City.
Donations were presented as follows: $1,500 to Ocean Pines Recreation & Parks, $500 to Ocean Pines Public Works Department, $300 to Ocean Pines Branch Library, $400 to the Veterans Memorial, and $100 to the Neighborhood Watch organization. Additional donations to be presented in January include $1,500 to Ocean Pines Police Department and $1,000 to Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department.
The craft shop sponsored by the group is located across from the Ocean Pines Community Center in White Horse Park. It is open every weekend year round on Saturday from 9-3 and Sunday from 10-3. The shop is open year-round with fabulous handmade/hand-crafted items which make wonderful gifts or delightful additions to your home decor.
